Cascade
With just over 1,000 residents, Cascade is a quiet place to live, work, vacation, or retire—yet its location provides easy access to other communities (Cascade is situated only 25 miles south of McCall on Highway 55 and offers the local Cascade Airport for convenient flights elsewhere). The Cascade School District has approximately 350 students in its primary school and high school, and the local Cascade Medical Center provides nearby emergency medical services. The town has a small, community movie theater, and further opportunities for shopping, the arts, and entertainment are only 80 miles to the south in Boise.
If it’s year-round recreation you love, Cascade’s high sub-alpine terrain (elevation 4800 feet) is ideal. During summer, the nearby Frank Church Wilderness provides ample opportunities for hiking, backpacking, camping, fishing, and horseback riding—and with an area of 2.3 million acres, it is one of the few places in the lower 48 states where the chances are high you’ll have trails all to yourself! Several bass fishing tournaments are held each year at Lake Cascade; then, in winter, the Lake offers some of Idaho’s best ice fishing, the region becomes a snowmobiler’s Mecca with 800 miles of groomed trails, and the newly developed Tamarack Resort showcases some of the country’s finest skiing.
Whether you’re interested in a second home for family vacations, a cabin from which to enjoy Idaho’s legendary hunting and fishing, or a one- to two-acre building lot with sweeping valley views on which to construct the home of your dreams, Cascade may very well be the place for you.
